Knotts Theme Park
The World’s First Amusement Park Themed Area Dedicated to Children Turns 20
BUENA PARK, Calif. (April 3, 2003) – The Camp Snoopy themed area has been
delighting families and kids for twenty years and to celebrate Knott’s Berry Farm Theme Park has
given kids a couple of new reasons to love Camp Snoopy. With the addition of Joe
Cool’s GR8 SK8 (Great Skate), a Peanuts-themed family attraction, and the completely
new Camp Snoopy Theatre the area will be taking on an updated look and feel. The
new ride and theatre are slated to open on April 12, 2003.
Reaching a height of 21 feet, Joe Cool’s GR8 SK8 is the perfect pint-sized thrill.
Riders take a 40-foot slide from one end of a giant skateboard to the other while the
platform teeter totters. Riders must be between 36 and 80 inches tall to participate. Joe
Cool’s GR8 Sk8 was specifically designed for young families. The ride is gentle enough
for small children while providing an entertaining ride for parents.
The adventurous skateboarding Joe Cool greets riders as they enter from atop of
the entrance sign wearing his patriotic themed sports helmet. Joe Cool’s GR8 SK8 is
located between Lucy’s Lunchbox and the all-new Camp Snoopy Theatre. The
skateboard fashioned passenger cart slides back and forth across a pivoting track. Eight
passengers are loaded at one end. When that end of the track is lifted upward, gravity
moves the passenger cart toward the far end. As the cart moves along the track, sensors
detect its position and reverse the pivoting motion of the track.
Joe Cool’s GR8 SK8 was manufactured by Interactive Rides of Logan, Utah.
Knott’s Design and Architecture provided all ride theming and design elements.
The all-new Camp Snoopy Theatre will be the Peanuts Gang’s newest location
for their musical performances. Previously a strolling show located throughout the
midways, the gang has a new home to expand their shows and allow up to 200 guests to
view at each seating. “With all new sound and lighting, and a greatly expanded
performance area, this new theatre promises to make the Peanuts gang shine,” stated
Jack Falfas, Vice President and General Manager of West Coast Operations, Cedar Fair,
L.P. “We really wanted to showcase our characters more than we ever have in the past.
This is the first stage ever dedicated to Snoopy.”
“Charlie Brown’s Hoe-Down” is the first show performing in the new amphitheatre
beginning April 12. Featuring country songs performed by the gang, the show will be
performed several times a day. A variety of additional shows are also in pre-production
and will debut in late June in time for the 2003 Summer Season.
Knott’s is located 10 minutes from the Disneyland Resort Anaheim Good Neighbor hotel and 30 miles south of
downtown Los Angeles.
